A Thing called the Cooperative Program

The Birth of a Brilliant Idea

In 1925, members of the Southern Baptist Convention realized that they could do far more working together than working apart.  Realizing the potential of denomination-wide missional partnership, the convention resolved to unite all its people, resources, and institutions, in a concerted effort aimed at fulfilling the Great Commission.  The result is what has come to be known as Cooperative Program (CP) Missions.

How the Program Looks

Southern Baptist Churches from around the nation give a portion of their tithes and offerings to the Cooperative Program.  The funds come from local churches, through state conventions, and into the national convention.  Those funds are then allocated to mission boards, seminaries, and agencies all committed to fulfilling the Great Commission.

What the Funds Do

Around the globe, CP Missions undergirds the work of almost 5,000 international missionaries in 153 countries through the International Mission Board (IMB).  In North America, the North American Mission Board (NAMB) and its partners support 5,081 missions personnel.  CP Missions funds also support the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission that works to affect government and legislation with a biblical worldview.

How CP Impacts You

If you have ever participated in Ohio Collegiate Ministries in any way, you have felt the impact of CP Missions.  Whether it was a meal on your campus pastor’s nickel, or maybe you did a cookout to serve your campus, or maybe you went on a mission trip with OCM somewhere around the world, you have enjoyed what you have experienced because several generations of people have been faithful in giving to the CP.

Your CP Help Now and In the Future

Ohio Collegiate Ministries continues to remain strong today because people give to the Cooperative Program.  If you have benefited from OCM, we ask that you pass the blessing on to the next generation of Ohio college students.  If you do not do so already, consider making a long-term personal commitment to Cooperative Program giving.  Whether you give it directly through a Southern Baptist Church in Ohio, through your local collegiate ministry, or to the Cooperative Program directly, please make sure Ohio Collegiate Ministries is a priority as you consider your financial giving.  As you consider all that you are today, consider how much of an impact OCM has had on your life and that of our family.  May God continue to bless generations of college students through the Cooperative Program we invest in together.
